A patient is awakened by excruciating pain that radiates from her right abdomen ?

  • to the loin and groin regions on the same side. The pain is not continuous but recurs at intervals of 3 to 4 minutes. Diagnose her problem, and cite factors that might favor its occurrence. Also, explain why pain comes in waves.

  • depending on the persons pain tolerance, she could just simply be ovulating..especially if the pain is occuring around ovulation..and if it switched from side to side every month...is it new or recoccurring? She might have an enlarged ovarian cyst or many cysts that are rupturing...they cause short busts of pain that radiate. Also, endometriosis could be a cause of the pain. If there is a chance she could be preggers, then an ectopic pregnancy is a chance too! This question cannot just be diagnosed..there are many factors that could change the diagnoses....I personally believe that pain comes in waves because it takes time for your brain to respond to pain, or even good feelings...the nerves and all that and also how your body is responding to the pain...could be masking the pain for only a few minutes at a time, then it needs a few minutes to recuperate and then mask the pain again. ALSO COULD SIMPLY BE GAS!
