we have a cat, He is all black, w/ white wide stripe from neck down (like a reversed skunk). Bigger than a regular cat, he follows everyone around. or is he just a regular cat, but big for his type. (not fat.)He is likely a Black & white domestic shorthair or a black & white domestic longhair, depending on the length of his fur but he could have a pure breed somewhere in his background. Maine Coons (the pure breed) are known for being very big cats so he could have it somewhere in his background.
Cats are like people. You'll see cats of all shapes and sizes, just as you do in people. Some are small, some are big, some are blue, some are green (sorry, Dr. Suess got in there somehow *L*)
Seriously, it's all just genetics. You just happened to have a cat that is bigger than most cats.
I have 4 cats. Raleigh is the biggest cat I've had. He's not fat, but very big and stocky. Rudiger and Nanaimo are about the same size, although Rudiger is thinner in bone structure (he's half siamese), and Scully the girl, she's tiny!! She still looks like a 6 month old kitten, even though she is Nanaimo's sister.
Hope this helps :)He is very likely "breedless," just as most of the cats in the world are. :) Unless a cat comes from a special breeder or breed-specific rescue, it has very little chance of being an actual purebred.
Short haired cats are called DSHs, or Domestic Shorthairs.
Long haired cats are called DLHs, or Domestic Longhairs.
So, depending on what length of hair your cat has, he's one of the above!Sounds like a domestic shorthair mix - just a bicolor (Black/White). Some cats do get pretty large. My biggest mix was a 14 lb male - solid - not fat.Black cats, for some reason, tend to be larger than the average short haired domestic feline. My Winston is a tuxedo (a common term for a black cat with a white stripe down their chest) and is huge. At 16 pounds (and he's all cat, no fat) the vet's office call him "The Puma.' Black cats can also be very social, just like yours and mine.What do you mean mixed?
