Many regular doctors are willing to diagnose and prescribe antidepressants to their patients. They don't offer cognitive behavioral therapy, however, and that is usually a component of best practices for treatment of the disorder. The best treatment team for depression includes both a therapist and prescribing psychiatrist. Be aware of this if you decide on the regular doctor option.Your general practitioner can diagnose depression, but he should recommend you see a specialist.
Your regular doc can give you meds for depression, such as Wellbutrin or Prozac, but he's not as trained to know these meds inside and out (such as possible side effects, what else you take that it might interfere with, or just overall effectiveness).
So if he starts you out on something and it's working for you, great. If you get side effects you can't handle, go to a psychologist. He'll know about these drugs much more intimately.Your regular Doctor is qualified to recognize depression, but you will probably need to be seen by a specialist to receive proper treatment.Your regular doctor can diagnose you. However he/she may advise you to go talk to a specialist. :-)#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
