Cat with a dry, crusty nose?

  • My 9 month old kitten has had a dry, crusty nose for about a week now. She seems fine otherwise--eating, playful, normal voiding, no sneezing, etc. Is it possible that it could just be the cold weather (and more frequent use of the central heat) that's causing this? What else would cause her nose to be so dry? It looks like at one point it was so dry it might have scabbed over and she licked/pulled it away because it looks like it may have bled a *tiny* bit then scabbed over. Is it normal for a cat to have a nose like this during cold, dry weather? She's a strictly indoor cat, and she hasn't had any new food/treats lately. Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks!

  • She may be putting her nose some where it should not be. Try a little petroleum jelly on the nose . Do this for a few days. It will fix a dry skin problem and as it heals it will stop a itch.

  • I have a cat with this same condition. She didn't develop it until she stayed a vets. I think she caught the feline herpes virus. Which some cats can be born with, passed down from their Mothers. Lysine crushed up in to her food helped a lot. Also it has seemed to go away now. So your kitty may get better with time.
