Barack Obama says he wants to improve this country's infrastructure very badly. I don't blame him. I think the infrastructure should be taken off of the back burner along with the environment. The tragic collapse of the bridge in Minneapolis was a wake-up call that many of the roads and bridges in America need to be updated. I was thinking Obama could kill two birds with one stone as part of his New Deal. Do you think they should include helices in the new infrastructure? A helix is an axis-shaped wind turbine that produces wind energy from the velocity of the cars on freeway. I saw those last Thanksgiving when I went to Seattle. What do you think? I have a picture of what I'm talking about.
http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2...Most of the websites I found about these are from companies who sell them. There doesn't seem to be anyone who has independently researched how effective they are.
The idea is neat, but the question is could they be economical? Could they generate enough electricity to make up for the cost of installing and maintaining them? I have a feeling they would not, but who knows.
Even if they do generate respectable energy, surely spending money on making cars more aerodynamic would be the more logical choice for two reasons:
1) The turbines will only catch a small fraction of the wind generated by the cars, so most of the wind energy will still be wasted.
2) The turbines themselves are far from 100% efficient at turning kinetic energy into electrical energy, so we can cut down the gains by another fraction there.
As you can see, we can avoid these losses and save much more energy by just reducing the amount of waste energy lost to wind in the first place. This is by far a more cost effective investment, especially since making cars more aerodynamic is not really that hard.We need all the help we can get and if helices would help us to be less energy dependent I say go for it!It seems to be an interesting idea, 'd like to learn more about this.well....
a nuclear blast will produce more wind velocity and the heat from the blast can be recaptured so/
my solution is produce more of those WOMD and just maybe we will have a mishap... but at least we can be ready to capture all that otherwise wasted energy....Absolutely! I'm really excited to see what out new president has planned for the future! Wind power is a waste of time. (Much more expensive than the value of the energy produced.)
I suggest taking all of the money out of any kind of welfare program. NO WELFARE. Put that money toward infrastructure. If you want your check, get a fast-track infrastructure job.
Budget-neutral, and great for society too. This all depends on how much energy they produce. Also how to account for alternative energy when there is no traffic on the freeway, let say at night. How about visibility if there are will be too many of helices on the freeway over the head and road going up and down the hill. So it is more complicated than just yes or no. The idea itself is interesting. I think this project should not be backed by government, but go as a private business. If it is profitable and useful it will survive otherwise it will die and may be peace with it. That is my tow cents for this idea.
I think that would be an amazing idea, provide it doesn't sideline other project because of it's cost, turnover period, time etc.
Yeah, it's a lovely idea i guess!!Obama's goal of improving infrastructure very badly is the reason why bridges fail in the first place.
Roads, bridges, and other infrastructure should be turned over to the private sector.i love your ideas and i support them all!!!IT will help America.
We need new ideas if we are going to survive the 21st Century. Obama is the perfect person to help America.
With these new ideas the world will need us to lead them, not the other way around like it has been for the past 8 years. Yes, it is a wonderful idea, that is a way of recycling energy.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
