Does the Panasonic produce 16:9 video or 4:3?

  • What's the purpose of having a widescreen display if the video is recorded at 4:3? As far as I can tell with the camcorder, that seems to be the case.

    See page 32. You have the option of shooting 4:3 or Widescreen DV. The purpose of the widescreen LCD panel is to make it easier to accommdate both recorded aspect ratios.


  • The widescreen display is for those who want to record in 16:9 High-Picture-Quality Wide Mode.

    Viewing 16:9 video on a small square LCD screen is very difficult. You don't have to record in the Wide Mode.

    If you plan on mixing your SD video with other HD video, then you probably want to record in the Wide Mode; otherwise, your square SD video may "stick out like a sore thumb".
