Green Energy Saving And Money Saving Ideas?
Posted on March 14th, 2010 by mike
I read a question a few weeks ago and was astonished by the amount of good thrifty answers.
What energy saving ideas/money saving ideas could you offer in this current credit crunching climate.
Anything from installing double glazing to turning your thermostat down a couple of degrees to buying certain things in bulk when itâ ™s buy one get one free.
Many thanks and look forward to hearing some great tips?
2. Avoid single use products, including prepackaged foods.
3. Minimize the number of trips to your local grocery store - buying a weeks (or months) worth of food at once minimizes travel cost, time, and the number of impulse purchases.
4. Spend a few dollars on low flow shower heads, sink aerators, fluorescent light bulbs, caulk, water heater insulating blanket, etc.
5. Spend more dollars on resource friendly, energy star rated appliances. You may spend more up front, but you will end up saving the extra cost several times over during the life cycle of the appliances.
6. Ride share if/when possible.
7. Walk instead of ride if/when possible.
8. Pay bills automatically/electronically, saving postage, paper, and time.
9. Turn your water heater down to 120 degrees.
10. Read your news online rather than subscribing to the local newspaper.
11. Unplug electronics when they are not being used. You would be amazed at how much electricity is used by DVD players, television sets, etc when they are "turned off".
12. Sweep your floors instead of using a vacuum cleaner on them. (this doesn't work on carpeted floors)
13. Air dry some of your clothes instead of using a clothes dryer.
14. Wash your clothes in cold water.
I recycle the materials correctly.
I consume healthy products for my body and the environment.
etc.
Shower on the lawn or in the garden. This way, all the run-off water can be used to water plants, rather than run wastefully down a drain.
Alternatively, use a bathtub to clean yourself. However, also bring in all your dirty dishes and cutlery etc. with you into the bathtub, and wash them there instead of a dishwasher. You will see a huge saving in the water consumed.
