Guitar Players Please Help me pick a Guitar!?

  • First of all, I don't know jack about guitars and have only held a guitar once in my life, but I have always been a fan of all types of rock music (but mostly Classic, Metal and Grunge)

Well for Christmas I decided I want a Starter Guitar Set (you know the ones, with the guitar, small amp, bag, extra strings, picks etc...) my budget is $300 and I've been looking at Guitar Centers website and have found a couple sets that interest me. I like all of the "Fender Stop Dreaming Start Playing" sets but I also found these two Ibanez Brand Guitars

    http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-IJX12...

    and

    http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-IJX30...

Now like I said, I have only held a guitar a few times in my life, but the thought of learning to play has always been with me, so what would be the "Better Buy" out of the Fender Sets or the Ibanez Sets

please tell me from personal experience of these guitars, and please put a URL in for what set would "Fit" the type of music im looking to play

  • ok i'm telling u right now get the ibanez $300 one.
i got that one last year and i love it so just get that one.

  • The Ibanez IJX121 Metal Guitar Jumpstart Set would probably be better for you if your a beginner

it comes with a 15 watt amp and that makes a big difference on the sound

my first guitar was that shape and it felt better to hold and when i got one with a shape pretty similar to the second link it felt way different

also it is the main shape of the ibanez guitars and later if you want to get accessories they will be easier to find

  • Buy a used Jackson with a Floyd and a Duncan in the bridge. Worry about the other stuff later. Stay away from Chinese crap.

  • Fender would be your best bet...a Squire Strat is inexpensive and has great tones...Ibanez is alright, but hard to stay in tune, at least that was my problem back in the day...I played a Squire on stage many a night and it never let me down...Acoustic wise, NOTHIN beats a Taylor...they are expensive, but it when you play it, you feel like Superman putting on his cape! Good luck and may all your strings stay in tune my friend!
