I parked my 95 Neon at work today and can't get the key out. The car turns on and off, it's in park, I tried backing up and parking it again a few times but the key won't go all the way to come out.
What can I do without having to visit a shop?? This has never happened to me before. Try to move the shift lever all the way to lowest gear and back to park fast and use some muscle. Hold the shifter button in while jamming it back and forth. If this doesn't work there may be a shift interlock mechanism that either is out of adjustment, a broken wire if it's solenoid activated, or gummed up if you have spilled a drink on the shift lever console. There may also be a problem on the ignition key mechanism if it has a cable activated lockout.i sold a car that was doing that! [not kidding] i tried these things [didn't work]
1 spray a little wd 40 into key hole
2 while running put in neutral and shut off
3 turn wheel back/forth while trying to remove it
there are anti theft chips in key ,,may b its screwing up...dealer may b only ans...gd lukHI
your not turning it to far back?? are you.. you know from lock to acc. if the key is all the way back it goes from lock to acc. and the key won't come out in acc mode

timTry jiggling the steering wheel back and forth while you're jiggling the key to get it out. Make sure the front wheels are straight and the gear shifter is fully in park then try jiggling the key while you jiggle the steering wheel and if it has tilt steering try different positions too.

There is a shift interlock solenoid in the shifter and a key release solenoid in the steering column that can cause the key stuck problem. All part of the BTSI (brake transmission shift interlock) system. You can call a locksmith and he will get it out for you. It may cost you a little though. Depending on who does it and what deal you get.Try pushing the shifter all the way into park. If it doesn't seat all the way, the switch won't clear to release the ignition to rotate all the way. If that doesn't get it, you'll have to pull the center console up and trip the switch manually. It may be loose on it's mount or broken. On some models (not sure about the neon) you can pull the steering column cover and there's a little release lever or button to override the shifter interlock.
