Is there a way to get the results of a papsmear without one...like bloodwork or something?

  • if they could do blood work instead of a pap smear do you think we would all be getting our uterus's scraped???

  • No, but you can get your blood checked for AIDS and other certain STDs if that is what you're worried about. Other than that, blood will not let doctor's know your overall condition of your uterus.

  • No. If it doesn't involve collecting cells off your cervix, it isn't a pap smear. Abnormal cervical cells will not show up in the blood. They only show up on the cervix.

It's not painful, and it doesn't take long.

  • Why? Are you trying to avoid getting a pap smear?

Because blood work can check for STDs, but you need the smear to test for cervical cancer... trust me. A smear test is not painful, and you shouldn't be embarrassed about it. All intelligent women know they have to d this to make sure they are healthy in that area - how could you not want to take every precaution against ill-health?

Really you have to ask yourself, would it be harder to have a quick, easy, painless test done...or not discover a problem until it's too late? I know what the smart choice is there...

  • Nope, you have to have a pap-smear to be sure.

The only other blood test I know of (can't remember what it's called) tests for ovarian cancer, but in order for you to check for cervical cell abnormalities you have to get a pap.

  • A smear takes some of the cells from your cervix (opening of your womb) and they get sent for analysis under a microscope. It is the small changes in these cells which can signal problems, even minor ones. So it would be impossible to analyse these cells using blood work.

Your smears are an essential part of your health. Please take them. x

edit: I'd like to add that there is no 'scraping' involved. Its a tiny little rubber brush which is brushed against your cervix. Maybe more women would go for smears if fewer people described the process in such a horrible way!

  • NOT SURE!
