Manchester United v Fulham [R]

  • FSW will show this live at 4:30am PT, & a replay at 9am PT. Woohoo!!!

    Preview (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/2847631.stm)

This is a must-win game. But could United be ambushed by Fulham? Fulham held United to a 1-1 draw in the 1st leg. And with all the excitement of the CL draw, and the upcoming games against Liverpool, Newcastle, & Arse, I hope the boys don't overlook this game in anticipation of facing the big ones.

Fergie should stick to this style in the Premiership and reserve his containing, patient, long ball counter-attacking play (and Veron) for Europe.

According to Ferguson, Veron is still 3-4 weeks away from full fitness.

(BTW machoward, I agree with all of your comments, as usual)

Ruud to Becks: "Your job is to pass the ball and mine is to score. Got it?" :D

  • That was a butt-kicking. United seemed a little flat in the first half, but Fulham didn't seem that interested.

  • I think Utd reverted back to their old style in this game - 4-4-2 with quick passing movements through the midfield. Scholes showed just how much better he is playing in central midfield than behind a lone striker and how it's his tireless "gopher" play, working the ball between the other three, that brings cohesion to midfield.

  • LOL. I think Ruud deserves a bit of the glory. He's one of the best things to happen to Man U in the past few years. Can't wait to see the replay. :)

  • Great game by United. They had great movement and created plenty of chances. Their defense was solid and Barthez came through with a couple nice saves. I thought the midfield was cohesive. It was nice to see Nicky Butt playing well after being injured for so long. Most importantly, United kept their foot on the gas pedal after the first goal, which has been a problem for them this year. They attacked well the entire game and subsequently kept Fulham from getting any rhythm.

    Worked, didn't it?

    :)

    Come on Everton...

He looked really pissed, and, if you notice, didn't do his normal celebration with the goal scorer on Ruud's third. Then again, Becks was only open by 10 yards -- and I bet would have played it back to Ruud for a tap in.

  • What a great game from Ruud. His 2nd goal was fantastic, & he really deserved a hat-trick today. Early on, he unleashed two powerful shots from the right side at such a tight angle, yet it was still on target. Hope the form stays next week.
