i have a 7 month old turkish van mix (he seems to be short hair but it's actually between short and medium and very bushy/thick. it's also coarser near his back end) and we keep giving each other static shocks. either when i'm petting him or if he tries to give me kisses (nose to nose, ouch!).
what can i do to stop this? i'm not wearing fleece and our carpets are low pile. is there a product i can buy to remedy this?
thanks.two things:
1. Wipe down with distilled water or a dryer sheet (unscented) or
2. Put some extra bowls of water around the house.Use an oil-based moisturizer on your hands and face. You can also massage a little olive, almond, walnut, or coconut oil into your cat's fur. The dryness of winter air makes this problem worse and I have a Van mix also (his name is Rusty but I call him Pumpkin Head a lot) and I have the same issues with his fur, but not the Coon's or the domestic short hairs'. If you groom your cat, use a natural bristle brush and not a metal or plastic tooth/comb.2 things- try rubbing a dryer sheet on him and get a humidifier, it will help both of you and no more shocks.use a dryer sheet (fresh out of the box) rub it all over your cat he will prolly think your petting himI think the dryer sheets would be toxic to your cat.
We have the same problem with our white domestic short-hair, Snowball, petting her can be quite a shocking experience. How shocking depends, in part, on the type of sole on the shoe that I wear.
We tried some of the anti-static spray once; it did NOT work.
One way to reduce the shocks is to discharge your built-up charge, before petting your cat. One way I do that is to take a conductive item, like a key, from my pocket. Then while holding one end of it, touch the other to a grounded screw on an electrical switch plate (or some other place that is grounded). After the spark jumps, you should be able to pet your cat without getting shocked.Your air is too dry, this is a problem in winter when the furnace and heating comes on. A humidifier is needed, to put moisture back in the air. You'll get less nosebleeds too, and your hands and lips won't be so dried out.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
