Unsecure ports

  • I've heard that ports 135-139, 445 and all ports 1025 and up
are not secure and should be blocked. I have a few questions:

How can I block range of ports i.e. 1025 and up in Outpost firewall?

What are other ports I didn't mentioned which also should be blocked?

Should I block these ports for TCP only or for UDP as well?

Should I block these ports for inbound connection only or for outbound as well?

  • Boris2004,

As long as you run Outpost in either Block Most or Rules Wizard mode (the others should only be used for troubleshooting) then ports will be blocked by default.

For more information on ports please review the FAQ thread and for more general configuration suggestions.

  • By default when you operate OP in the Wizard or Block most mode all ports are either closed or stealthed. Ports are only opened when a specific rule allows them to be. You can, of course, set up rules to make sure certain applications are blocked from using certain ports. The best souce is here: .
