Are they asking for them because they actually want to discover new music, or is it just for the sake of being underground, an additional point totaled to their indie cred?
i agree with jake. i do this too sometimes but i love to make other bands get more known :) and most of the time they end up being jst as good or better than mainstream stuff. They dont have a reason to change the sound of their music to fit in since theyre just starting out. .. if that makes sense. i dont know about other people (i also don't care because if they are like the second one they are losers)i do it to find new music. i get tired of listening to the same stuff all the time.Unfortunately I think Jay is correct. But either way, 99% of the underground is better than the mainstream so they'll be listening to better music IMO. Just because their intent isn't very good, doesn't mean the outcome is bad.They want to discover new music because they like that style better but don't know how to find it.
Who would listen to music just to make people think they are cool? That doesn't make sense.. you have to like it first.....
I can understand *disliking* music to make people think you're cool, but pretending to like something you think is terrible, that's just torture... Thus, you have to like it first. Then, if you *think* that makes you cool, you're dumb, but at least you're listening to something you like.Sadly more than half the time it's the second one.
Edit: Usually you can tell from the wording. Most of the time people ask, "What are some unknown bands because I'm tired of listening to the same thing as everyone else?" as opposed to, "What are some good bands I probably haven't heard of?"For me its just the love of music and I just crave new songs.I listen to the ones I enjoy so much that the need for new music is huge.They want bands that not many people know of so they can have their own style. All the music I listen to millions of people know of but everyone at my school listens to todays rap, pop, and preppy rock.
