Why are you a democrat or republican? what values do you identify with?

  • i am trying to evaluate political identification for my column. help me out with some of your thoughts/election feedback.

every time i try to have a political conversation--people always get personal and super defensive. how can we ever know anything unless we question each other to learn about how others think?

    please answer respectfully. thanks :)

  • I'm a libertarian (although I'm not old enough to vote).
    Follow the constitition.
They didn't call it land of the free for nothing!!!
If I HAD to choose between Rep. or Dem., I'd say Republican, because I have more traditional values.

  • I am a Republican in the Reagan mold....far from where Reps are now, having drifted left. I believe in a limited gov't, personal responsiblity, a strong military (used judiciuously) and morality in our laws.

Our Founding fathers knew that this republic would only work with a moral & just people, and the more laws we have to control our behavior reflect the declining morals of our society.

Unfortuantely, more people now have an "entitlement" mentality, that they have a "right" to things that other (i.e. taxpayers) people pay for.

Actually, I would classify myself as more of an Independent...Traditionalist.

  • I am neither.

  • There is one issue that will always influence my choice in selecting a candidate.

I believe that abortion is wrong. Killing somebody because you don't want them around is murder.

Some will say I'm offensive and not considering a woman's rights. I say consider the rights of the unborn child who is unable to protect itself. Animals get more rights and protection than an unborn child.

If its just a mass of cells, then we are all just a mass of cells.

Anybody ever look at pictures of a developing child?

  • I believe compassion is a virtue and greed a weakness - that is why I am a Democrat.
If I believed the opposite I would be a Republican.

  • Libertarian

Very Limited Government, Maximum personal liberty.

  • its a dead heat
today they are joined at the hips
    perfect ID twins
    I am independent

  • Republican respects the warriors.U.S.N and proud.

  • I come from a blue collar family. I now have a blue collar family of my own, although my husband and I own a very sucessful business. Growing up, it was instilled in me that repubs are for the rich and dems are for the working class. I haven't seen anything in my lifetime to convince me otherwise. So I am a democrat. I believe in giving the little guy a leg up so he can be succesful too. I went to community college for one semester, that's all I could afford. I lived with my parents and worked a minimum wage job at 40 plus hours a week I brought home $1200.00 that year. Because of those two reasons, I wasn't eligible for grants or aid. Now most of the repubs out there would say that I was just lazy and didn't want to succeed. Obviously, they are wrong. Now the Dems out there would say that sucks, happened to me too. But since we are the blue collar workers, we go on and work until we can be comfortable. Which most of us do.

What is wrong with wanting to help a kid who has no chance of going to college because of where they grew up or who they grew up with? Dems believe it is better to help that kid with education then pay for him to have welfare, food stamps, medicaid or at the very least prison. Repubs would rather have nothing to do with it but complain about them not doing anything to put themselves through school.

Anyways, didn't mean to ramble, but that's why I am a Democrat in a nutshell. lol

  • I consider myself an independent however I do identify more with the republican values which I believe are closer to the traditional values I hold dear such as:

    Minimal government involvement.
    Personal responsibility.
No abortions after the first trimester unless determined by a doctor.
    A believe in God.

  • I am a former Reagan Republican who used to dislike Democratic liberals. Thanks to Bush I have changed full circle.

Republicans don't want government involved when it comes to their money, but when it comes to legislating morality like gay marriage and abortion, they want the government all over us.

Republicans are pro-military and pro-religion. As a liberal, I am anti-military and anti-religion. The world becomes a dangerous place when religion and military are mixed together.

  • Democrats need less leaders . Republicans have to many chiefs and not enough workers that's why they keep outsourcing our work

  • I am a democrat because I care for people more than I care for business. These days I happen to think that it's ironic that this country is against free college education and free medical care because that's considered socialism but is willing bail out multimillionaire bankers and automakers - and that's considered....

  • Republican: Traditional 1960's values -- no Blacks, Gays, Jews, & Muslims allowed.

Democratic: The exact opposite of Republican values. Except, more Modern values.

  • Libertarian. I believe in self-governance of my daily affairs, limited government, limited taxes, the non-aggression principle, and the economics of Hayek, Friedman, Mises, and Rothbard.

  • I identify with PETA so pretty much the green party. I believe we need to be extreme on issues of animal rights and the environment.

  • I am a die-hard conservative. I want the Constitution to be followed and respected. I feel that my vote has been hijacked by the Republican party for the last time, but I think the Liberttarian platform is just a tad too hands off for me. I am anti-abortion, because who speaks for the child, when do they get to vote on wether they live or die due to their parents irresponsible behavior? I believe abortion to be legalized infanticide. I also find it illogical to legalize all drugs. That said, the Constitution is pretty well written, and not just a "G.D. piece of paper" as Mr. Bush puts it. Thanks George, but I'd like our founding document respected.
