Why Europe and European(european-americans and australians included) Athletes are so dominant?

  • in Wikipedia
    in 398 multiple gold medalists
    334 were European (Caucasian) athletes
    24 of African decent
40 of Asian here the source
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mul...

also Caucasian race in total ,has 85,4% of medals in history and rest African with Asian share a good 15%

also Caucasians if u exclude few sports ,like basketball and track events, that people of African decent dominate, or table tennis ,bandmington and some martial arts that Asian people dominate, Caucasian people dominate worldwide over 90% of sports maybe more!
    why is that you think??

  • Some part of it is historical. The olympics have been contested since 1896, but in the earlier Olympics, it was primarily a European, US event - with the odd Aussie thrown in. Apart from Jesse Owens - there wasn't really any athletes of African decent or heritage until about the 70's. Also China has really only competed in about 7 Olympics. They did have some athletes prior - like one athlete went in 1936 without government permission. So looking at the stats you provided - about 75% of the Olympic games (1896 to about the 1972 or so) was predominantly European (Causcasian) athletes.

Obviously the reason why no African / Asian athletes prior to this is in large part due to economic situation, lack of training facilities, in built racism in some countries etc. You will find over the course of the next 100 years of Olympics it will all even out.

Also not sure if you are counting African american, or just scanned the flags to get your tally - but off the top of my head I could name several african american multiple medal winners.
